Yes, that’s what I said, a Q-tip!!🙂 With all that is happening with quarantines and teletherapy, availability of OT tools is often an issue !!! Many families do not have paint brushes, let alone paint!! However, this should not stop us from having fun, yet impactful sessions!! If you ask many parents what they do have at home to work with, many say: markers, paper, scissors. No paint brush, or paint. Not to worry though, we can think outside the box and use what’s around:
I.e Q-tip !
No paint? Hey, no worries, we’ll use water and markers instead :))!!
How?
See video below:
Grown-up: Make simple lines with markers on paper, then have the child dip a Q-tip in a small cap/container of water. Then with the wet Q-tip, have child trace along the marker drawn lines!!! Below is a fun worksheet that can be downloaded and used as a template for this . If you have no printer, again, no worries 🙂 simply draw a set of lines on plain typing paper using markers, then have child trace along with the wet Q- tip🙂👍!
Tip: when child is painting, be sure to have him hold the middle of the Q-tip, so the tip on top is always visible!! In other words, Don’t hold the top of the Q-tip, make sure we can always see it while paintingđź‘Ť
Main OT skills- tripod grasping, visual-motor
Now go ahead and try it:) Afterwards come back and share all about it!:)
