This is not simply an arts and crafts task. This is a multi-step occupation based activity. Child works with their “grown -up” to cut along the lines and paste together the pieces in number order.
Before cutting, the child can trace along the cut- out- lines. Or even try tracing the large star outline.
After pasting the pieces back together, the child can color the small stars with matching colored crayons or markers.
You and your child can even try water painting the large star after “building it”.
Water painting is great practice not only with positioning of fingers for fine motor tripod grasping, but also for promoting wrist movement for a more dynamic tripod grasp.
